We all knew it was coming, it was just a matter of when, but now it’s official; there will be a royal wedding in the near future.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their engagement today, with a Spring 2018 wedding apparently in the works. The 33 year old Prince and the 36 year old star of Suits have been dating since July 2016, with the pair revealing it in October of the same year. Clarence House made a statement that said ““His Royal Highness and Ms. Markle became engaged in London earlier this month. Prince Harry has informed Her Majesty The Queen and other close members of his family. Prince Harry has also sought and received the blessing of Ms. Markle’s parents. The couple will live in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace.”
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip said they were “delighted for the couple and wish them every happiness.” Prince William and Kate Middleton also released a statement that said “We are very excited for Harry and Meghan. It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together.”
While no official word has been given, royal insiders believe that the Queen may give Harry a royal dukedom on his wedding day, and be made the Duke of Sussex. That would make Meghan the Duchess of Sussex.
Shortly after the announcement was made, the pair made an appearance at Kensington Palace to pose for their official engagement photos and record a television broadcast that will air this evening. The photoshoot was held in the Sunken Gardens, with much emphasis placed on the diamond engagement ring. It’s said that the center stone is from Botswana, and that the outside two diamonds are from his late mother, Princess Diana’s collection.
